Surendra Nagaraju: Drabble ‘The misery of a finger’

An index finger was admitted to a hospital with twitchings. Investigations could not clinch the

diagnosis. The perplexed doctors pinned hopes on digging deep into the medical history.

Meanwhile, the finger became delirious. The interrogation was intensified. Then came the clue. “Withdrawal Syndrome,” they shouted jubilantly. But withdrawal from what? It could not be ascertained.

Correlating the patient’s past habits with the symptoms gave a clue. The doctors advised the finger to resume its habit of scrolling the posts on Facebook etc.

The patient followed the instructions again diligently.

Hurrah, the finger got well and was discharged from the hospital!

Verônica Moreira: poema ‘Diagnóstico de Amor Infindo’

Se pensas conhecer minha dor 
Dê-me o alívio que preciso 
Não me digas que sente muito 
Apenas me cura se te for possível.  

Minha dor parece pequena
Porque ninguém conhece a causa 
Se pensas que é tão minúscula
Não há razão para eu explicá-la. 

Não me perguntes onde doí
Pois nem eu mesma sei ao certo 
Às vezes parece ser na alma 
Às vezes tudo por completo. 

Dói os olhos e a boca 
As pernas, braços, coração 
Dói demais toda saudade 
Que traz de volta o que foi bom. 

Mas não poderei explicar 
O tamanho da dor que sinto 
Pré-diagnóstico de especialista 
Diz que se trata de um amor infindo.
