Cecilia Morris: Poem ‘Reflections’

And I don’t care who knows it.’

I listen to you recite poetry
follow footsteps to your shack
with its fading paint.
You talk of family history.

The screen door bangs,
we walk through tall wallaby grass
pace your land.

Blue-tongue lizards
shelter among leaf litter,
hiss as we pass down the street
so wide once for bullock carts.

The Northerly buffets us
outside the mechanics hall,
by the war memorial,

We move to the lagoon,
watch eels slide quickly past.

The closest thing to poetry
is the moon, you say.

I am grounded, in Melbourne,
where one house is pressed
against the next.

I wander outside
into a clear night,
lit by a full moon.
Not the wide luminous moon
Of your heartland,
But still it draws me out

We share the night.

Iqbal Chand: Poem ‘Song of a Bairagi’

There are certain problems.
Nobody chases me visibly,
but I have to tread only this path.
And in the end, when I reach,
it is not the one to have arrived at.
What worldly men expect and climb up the steps for
is the one I am getting rid of by climbing down.
By the way, you are nice possessors of things –
you gained both this world and the other world.
I lost both of them.
It is a weird dream not to be dreamt by me.
What have we to do with colours in darkness?
Tell me now,
have I expected anything?

Dr. Khwaja Mohammad Iqbal Chand Bahadur was born on 21 September 1974 in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

On the day he was born, the well-known Telugu poet Dasharathi Garu, who was a close family friend, visited the newborn and named him “Iqbal Chand Bahadur.”

The name was inspired by two poets whom Dasharathi Garu greatly admired Allama Mohammad Iqbal and Bahadur Shah Zafar. Later, the family officially adopted the full name Khwaja Mohammad Iqbal Chand Bahadur

Dr. Iqbal is a Gold Medalist in Ph.D. He holds an MBA in Human Resource Management, M.Phil., M.A. in English, and M.A.(Telugu) in Literature, with Sanskrit as an optional subject.

He has also completed several professional certifications, including Unix Engineering in IT and Cyber Security, ITIL V3, ITIL V4, and PMP (Project Management Professional).

Professionally, Dr. Iqbal is the Co-founder and Managing Director of Digiplanet Techno Solutions.

Apart from his professional and academic achievements, Dr. Iqbal is also a poet and literary personality. His poetry collections Aarovarnam and Banjaara have received appreciation for their literary quality and cultural themes.
