Altruísmo e espírito de missão
Servir na Armada Portuguesa, de facto, não era para qualquer pessoa.
Esta circunstância alimentou, e reforçou a autoestima de um jovem humilde, pobre, mas que não virou as costas a um sonho, lutou, correu atrás dele e venceu, sempre convicto de que seria capaz de atingir este primeiro desiderato na sua vida, foi um pouco como refere o adágio popular: “O homem sonha; Deus quer e a obra nasce”, neste caso, o projeto, concretiza-se.
Um de Abril de mil novecentos e sessenta e seis, data histórica, que prevalece na memória de um cidadão, hoje, pai e avô, que continua a orgulhar-se do privilégio de ter servido na Armada Portuguesa, com total empenho, desvanecimento incontido e, acima de tudo, um grande respeito pelos valores que continuam a orientar todas as pessoas, nas diversas especialidades, com as diferentes patentes e motivações, que excedem todas as expetativas, continuam a “Amar” a nossa Armada.
O lema que continua a orientar a vida deste cidadão: “A Pátria Honrae que a Pátria vos Contempla”.
A escolha, feita há sessenta anos, considera-a, ainda hoje, como sempre, a mais acertada, isto é: “servir a Armada Portuguesa, foi a forma que considerou a mais abnegada, de amar o seu país”, nada pedindo, então, em troca.
No dia um de Abril de mil novecentos e sessenta e seis (que não foi nenhuma mentira), aquele jovem sonhador apresentava-se no Corpo de Marinheiros no Alfeite, onde adquiriria todo o fardamento necessário, para, de imediato, e ainda no mesmo dia, receber a respetiva “Guia de Marcha” e dirigir-se para o Grupo Número Um de Escolas da Armada, em Vila Franca de Xira, onde se processaria a preparação militar dos mancebos, e também dos recrutas, que se prolongou até quinze de Julho DE MIL NOVECENTOS E SESSENTA E SEIS, data do “Juramento de Bandeira”, a que correspondia o fim da recruta.
O contingente de abril de mil novecentos e sessenta e seis era composto por mais de mil homens: cerca de quinhentos e cinquenta, mancebos voluntários, com dezassete/dezoito anos; os restantes, jovens recrutados na idade normal para o serviço militar, com vinte/vinte e um anos de idade.
Na época, cumprir o serviço militar na Armada Portuguesa, como de resto, nos restantes ramos das Forças Armadas, era, naturalmente, uma imposição que pendia sobre todos os jovens Portugueses, todavia, existia a outra alternativa, que já foi identificada: a emigração que, até ao vinte e cinco de abril de mil novecentos e setenta e quatro, era feita sob a “capa” da clandestinidade, com imensos riscos, incluindo perigo de vida, para os Portugueses que optavam por sair do país.
O cumprimento do serviço militar na Armada Portuguesa constituía e, continua a ser, uma incomparável “Escola de Vida Excecional”. Aqui se cultivavam os valores da solidariedade, da camaradagem, da lealdade, do humanismo, do respeito, da tolerância, da compreensão, da disciplina e da entreajuda; nela, na Armada, se cumprem: com rigor, profissionalismo e atualização, as diversas funções que cabem a cada mulher e a cada homem; neste ramo das Forças Armadas o “espírito de missão”, o altruísmo com que se realizam as gratificantes tarefas, por mais “penosas” que possam parecer, é uma constante e uma honra.
“A Pátria honrae que a Pátria vos Contempla”.
E não há que ter complexos ao se escrever, e/ou pronunciar a palavra “Pátria”, porque ela significa o Território, a Língua, a História, a Cultura, com as suas tradições, usos e costumes, os objetivos, enfim um Destino comum.
Tudo isto se defende no serviço militar, em geral e na Armada em particular.
É muito importante, para a formação da pessoa, verdadeiramente humana, que, as/os jovens Portugueses, cumpram um período, ainda que de alguns meses, de serviço militar, mesmo que seja em regime de voluntariado, sem prejuízo das suas atividades profissionais, pelo menos em tempo de paz, porque não há melhor escola na vida, do que tudo o que se aprende na Escola Militar.
